Abstract
A WDM cross-connect is a device based on integrating a two-dimensional array of Bragg diffraction cells. This device can be used in various wavelength routing network applications and it overcomes the major pro blems related to a conventional broadcast passive star coupler. In thi s paper, we propose a method of using this device in the implementatio n of a new logical topology: the bilayered ShuffleNet. This new config uration uses the same configuration as the conventional ShuffleNet, wh ere N = kP(k), but with the addition of another set of connections, th e bilayered ShuffleNet achieves a higher efficiency compared to the co nventional case. Moreover, the bilayered configuration offers addition al flexibility.
