Re. Fassinger et Bs. Richie, BEING THE BEST - PRELIMINARY-RESULTS FROM A NATIONAL STUDY OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF PROMINENT BLACK-AND-WHITE WOMEN, Journal of counseling psychology, 41(2), 1994, pp. 191-204
In this study the achieving styles, coping strategies, gender roles, a
nd feminist attitudes of 125 prominent, highly achieving Black and Whi
te women in the United States were examined. Multivariate analyses of
variance were used to examine race differences and similarities; canon
ical regression analyses were used to examine relationships among achi
eving styles and the other sets of variables. Both similarities and di
fferences between Black and White women were found, and achieving styl
es were significantly related to the other variables. Strengths, limit
ations, and implications of the study for counseling are discussed.
