Abstract
We examined the content and construct validity of the White Racial Ide ntity Attitude Scale (WRIAS; Helms & Carter, 1990) in two separate stu dies. In Study 1, we submitted WRIAS data reported by Tokar and Swanso n (1991) to item and factor analyses to examine psychometric character istics and dimensionality of the instrument. In Study 2, trained judge s examined the content of each WRIAS item and rationally assigned the items to appropriate subscales based on Helms's (1984) theory. Results of the two studies did not support the psychometric adequacy of the W RIAS. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
