The substituents of the bridging sulfur atoms exert an electronic cont
rol on the site of methylation of the cyanide complex [Mo-2(eta(5)-C5H
5)(2)(CO)(CN)(mu-SR)2](-): the methylation can be diverted from a sulf
ur lone pair to the cyanide ligand on changing the electronic properti
es of the R groups from electron-releasing to electron-withdrawing, re
spectively.
