M. Rabinovitz et Aj. Demetris, POSTINFANTILE GIANT-CELL HEPATITIS ASSOCIATED WITH ANTI-M2 MITOCHONDRIAL ANTIBODIES, Gastroenterology, 107(4), 1994, pp. 1162-1164
Whereas giant cell hepatitis (GCH) is a common diagnosis made in neona
tes, it is rare in the adult population. The diagnosis of GCH is based
on the presence of giant cell transformation of hepatocytes. It is co
mmonly associated with either viral hepatitis or autoimmune disorders.
A patient with GCH who had anti-M2 mitochondrial antibodies is descri
bed. This combination, which has not been previously reported, undersc
ores the association of GCH with autoimmune disorders and stresses the
importance of corticosteroids as an empirical initial therapy.
