A. Holmen et al., INCREASED FREQUENCY OF MICRONUCLEI IN LYMPHOCYTES OF SWEDISH CHIMNEY SWEEPS, International archives of occupational and environmental health, 66(3), 1994, pp. 185-187
Forty-five Swedish chimney sweeps and 49 controls were investigated wi
th micronuclei stimulated by phytohemagglutinin and pokeweed mitogen a
nd by analysis of lymphocyte subgroups and neutrophilic leukocytes. Th
ere was a statistically significant effect among sweeps with respect t
o both micronuclei variables and neutrophilic leukocytes. The effect o
n lymphocyte micronuclei was most prominent in pokeweed mitogen-stimul
ated cells, which may imply that the T4 lymphocytes were preferentiall
y damaged by the occupational exposure.
