Ah. Matsumoto et al., COMPRESSION OF THE SUPERIOR MESENTERIC-ARTERY BY THE MEDIAN ARCUATE LIGAMENT - A CAUSE FOR MESENTERIC ISCHEMIA - A CASE-REPORT, Vascular surgery, 28(7), 1994, pp. 489-493
Extrinsic compression of the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) by the m
edian arcuate ligament (MAL) is an uncommon entity. The authors report
a case of compression of the SMA by the MAL in a patient with celiac
artery occlusion and intestinal angina. Arteriography and computerized
tomography were suggestive of the diagnosis. Division of the fibrous
bands of the MAL extending onto the anterior surface of the SMA reliev
ed the arterial compression, with subsequent resolution of the patient
's symptoms.
