Abstract
Nymphs of the stilt bug Jalysus spinosus were observed on the densely pubescent Tradescantia hirsuticaulis on Glassy Mountain in South Carol ina, but they were absent from coexisting colonies of the glabrous T. ohiensis. This host association supports the characterization of metac anthine berytids as specialists on glandular-hairy plants. Tradescanti a hirsuticaulis is the first member of the spiderwort family, Commelin aceae, known to serve as a berytid host.
