Four patients, ages 75 to 92 years, with a dementia of the Alzheimer t
ype, presented with accompanying depression and psychosis. In these pa
tients, treatment with a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor result
ed in a dramatic clearing of not only the depressive symptoms but the
psychosis as well Treatment was well tolerated in all cases.
