Abstract
The composition of aldohexoses, aldopentoses, and hexuloses has been d etermined by C-13 NMR spectroscopy in dimethyl sulfoxide (Me(2)SO) sol ution. While some of the sugars have almost the same composition as in aqueous solution, others (particularly fructose, galactose, and talos e) have compositions which are very different. There seems to be no ob vious explanation for this behaviour.
