Abstract
A total of 62 staff members from a general hospital participated in a study about alexithymia and the five-factor model of personality, meas ured by the Toronto Alexithymia Scale and the NEO Five Factor Inventor y, respectively, and their relationship to recognition affect. Subject s with alexithymic characteristics were less able to recognize affecti ve states in posed facial expressions and so may have modified their e mpathic capacity.
