Molecular and structural characteristics of 2- and 4-vinylpyridine pol
ymers prepared with tris(pi-allyl)chromium in THF at 65-degrees-C are
compared. The parameters of these polymers indicate that the polymeriz
ation processes are characterized by various reactions which give rise
to the branched macromolecules having multimodal molecular mass distr
ibution. In the case of poly(2-vinylpyridine) these peculiarities are
revealed to a greater extent. The same reactions lead to the formation
of multisite living chains which initiate polymerization of acrylonit
rile to form branched hybrid polymers.
