Pericarditis is rare in patients with Schonlein-Henoch vasculitis and
usually occurs in patients with diagnosed, active disease. Possible me
chanisms include vasculitis and nephrotic syndrome with anasarca. A ca
se of acute pericarditis occurring as the first manifestation of Schon
lein-Henoch vasculitis is reported herein. The patient developed tampo
nade eight days before the appearance of purpura over the limbs.
