Oe. Quiroga et al., GENERAL CHEMICAL-COMPOSITION OF SEEDS AND INFLORESCENCE FROM PLANTAGO-LANCEOLATA (LLANTEN), Anales de la Asociacion Quimica Argentina, 82(3), 1994, pp. 139-145
Seeds plus inflorescence from Plantago lanceolata harvested at Olavarr
ia (Buenos Aires, Argentina) were defatted with petroleum ether (60-de
grees-80-degrees) and the raw oil obtained with a yield of 2,3% dry ba
sis. The crude oil was examined in their physicochemical characteristi
cs. It had refractive index of 1,4647 (at 25-degrees-C), saponificatio
n index of 159,7, unsaponifiable matter of 29,9% and total sterol 6,3%
(as sitosterol). The fatty acid composition was established 0,3);14:0
(1,8);14:1(3,1);15:1(0,4);16:0(45,7);18:0 (1.6); 18:1 (10,5); 18.2 (29
,6); 18:3 (6,7). The residual seed meal contained 13,87% of crude prot
ein, of available lysine 1.01 g/16 g N. Values of total phosphorous, a
sh, crude fiber, calcium, polisaccharides (non presence of starch) and
''residual lipids'' are given.
