Starting from the commercially available threo-aleuritic acid (1a) and
its erythro-isomer (5), Wittig reactions have been carried out using
several procedures on the aldehydes available by CrO3-Py oxidation of
the terminal hydroxyl function. From the 16-iodo derivative (6) of ery
thro-aleuritic acid, through Wittig reaction followed by reductions an
d olefination of the 1,2-glycol function, (Z)-9-tricosene (4) has been
synthesised.
