Abstract
Three novel halogenated norsesquiterpenoids, 2-chloro-2, 6, 10-trimeth ylundecanoic acid (1), its 2-bromo analog (2) and methyl 2-chloro-2-ca rboxy-6, 10-dimethylundecanoate (3), alongwith fucosterol, 7-ketochole sterol as well as several fatty acids ranging from 14:0 to 22:0 with p almitic acid (16:0, 67.4%) and oleic acid (18:1, 17.1%) being the majo r constituents, have been isolated from the pet. ether soluble fractio n of the methanol extract of the brown alga Padina tetrastromatica and their structures elucidated from the respective spectral data.
