THE EUROPEAN-BIOINFORMATICS-INSTITUTE (EBI) DATABASES

This paper describes the databases and services of the European Bioinf ormatics Institute (EBI). In collaboration with DDBJ and GenBank/NCBI, the EBI maintains and distributes the EMBL Nucleotide Sequence Databa se, Europe's primary nucleotide sequence data resource. The EBI also m aintains and distributes the SWISS-PROT Protein Sequence Database, in collaboration with Amos Bairoch of the University of Geneva. Over thir ty additional specialist molecular biology databases, as well as softw are and documentation of interestto molecular biologists, are also ava ilable. The EBI network services include database searching, entry ret rieval, and sequence similarity searching facilities.
