M. Mcclelland et al., EFFECT OF SITE-SPECIFIC MODIFICATION ON RESTRICTION ENDONUCLEASES ANDDNA MODIFICATION METHYLTRANSFERASES, Nucleic acids research, 22(17), 1994, pp. 3640-3659
Restriction endonucleases have site-specific interactions with DNA tha
t can often be inhibited by site-specific DNA methylation and other si
te-specific DNA modifications. However, such inhibition cannot general
ly be predicted. The empirically acquired data on these effects are ta
bulated for over 320 restriction endonucleases. In addition, a table o
f known site-specific DNA modification methyltransferases and their sp
ecificities is presented along with EMBL database accession numbers fo
r cloned genes.
