T. Konishiike et al., CUBITAL TUNNEL-SYNDROME IN A PATIENT IN LONG-TERM HEMODIALYSIS, Journal of hand surgery. British volume, 19B(5), 1994, pp. 636-637
The onset mechanism of cubital tunnel syndrome and carpal tunnel syndr
ome may be similar in haemodialysis patients. Carpal tunnel syndrome i
s well recognized as a consequence of dialysis-associated amyloidosis.
This case report documents the development of cubital tunnel syndrome
in a patient on haemodialysis treatment for 10 years. Proliferating g
ranulation tissue at the elbow had entrapped and displaced the ulnar n
erve. This was corrected surgically, and the patient experienced immed
iate relief of the numbness and the ''tingling'', but the muscular atr
ophy had not improved after 8 months.
