M. Kirchgessner et al., THE EFFECT OF THE HYPOLIPIDEMIC COMPOUND LIFIBROL ON BILE-FLOW, BILE LIPIDS AND THE LITHOGENIC INDEX OF BILE IN PIGS, Journal of animal physiology and animal nutrition, 71(4-5), 1994, pp. 261-267
The present study investigated the effect of lifibrol treatment (5 mg/
kg and 10 mg/kg, respectively) on bile flow and bile composition in pi
gs. Lifibrol treatment reduced the rate of cholesterol secretion and c
holesterol concentration as well as the lithogenic index of bile. The
effect of lifibrol on these parameters was dose dependent. In contrast
, bile flow, secretion rate and concentration of phospholipids and bil
e acids were not influenced by lifibrol treatment. The results indicat
e that lifibrol might be a useful agent in prevention gallstone format
ion.
