La. Chernozatonskii et al., CARBON-FILMS OF ORIENTED MULTILAYERED NANOTUBES DEPOSITED ON KBR AND GLASS BY ELECTRON-BEAM EVAPORATION, Chemical physics letters, 228(1-3), 1994, pp. 94-99
Results are described of the high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM
) of axially textured carbon films deposited on KBr and glass dielectr
ic substrates by electron beam evaporation of graphite slower than in
carbon particle flow. HREM revealed that the films consist of oriented
multilayered graphitized nanotubes similar to Iijima tubes. These tub
es are characterized by two types of tube-tips: dome-shaped and conica
l. Tubes with conical tips are characterized by sets of inside caps, t
erminating the cylinder parts of the inner layers. The diameter of the
tube inner channel is 0.9-2.9 nm, the number of layers is 11-32. As s
hown by scanning tunnelling microscopy the tube tips form a surface re
lief of the film.
