It is demonstrated that the ''murine'' lethal toxin of Yersinia pestis
desensitizes the beta-adrenergic receptors coupled to the pulmonary a
denylate cyclase system. The degree of adenylate cyclase activation in
rat pulmonary membrane preparation by isoproterenol or histamine and
the number of beta-adrenergic receptors decrease after a 2-h incubatio
n with the toxin.
