Tubercular parotitis which, at the same time, affects the limph nodes
and the glandular parenchyma is not a common occurrance in childhood.
We examined a three year old child with a semi-hard, inflamed and pain
ful swelling in the right parotid area. Clinical, hematological, micro
biological, radiological and histological evaluations suggested a poss
ible tubercular ethiology. The primary localization of the parotid gla
nd and the limph nodes in the absence of other localizations suggests
the diagnostic possibility of parotid primary complex or isolated tube
rculosis in that organ. The Authors wish to underline the importance o
f surgery in association with anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy for recov
ery and to avoid recurrance.
