Abstract
Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) may sometimes be misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease in its early stages, hence an early positive diagn osis of PSP based on dopamine D2 receptor density could be extremely v aluable. In the present case report, the absence of dopamine D2 recept ors was clearly demonstrated in the striatum using I-123-iodobenzamide (IBZM) tomoscintigraphy. This illustrates the potential use of IBZM t omoscintigraphy to identify Parkinson-like's disease presenting with d ecreased dopamine D2 receptor density; and hence to predict L-Dopa eff ectiveness. Further studies are needed to evaluate the value of IBZM t omoscintigraphy in the different Parkinson's like diseases.
