Abstract
A new species of water mites, Partnunia chenabi, is described from the Lahul district in the Himalaya mountains (India). This is the first r ecord of the genus in Central Asia - so far, Partnunia species were kn own only from the west palaearctic region and from Japan. The diagnost ic characters of the new species are compared with the features of the most similar species P. angusta and P. steinmanni from Central Europe . Some general remarks are made on the present knowledge of the water mite fauna of India and on the spring habitats in the Lahul district.
