OPTIMUM SYNTHESIS OF (CHLOROMETHYL)SILANES BY CHLORINATION AND METHYLATION REACTIONS OF CHLORO(METHYL)SILANES

Comparative studies on chlorination and methylation reactions have bee n carried out to afford chloromethyl(methyl)silanes. For chlorination reactions, three types of initiators, viz., azobisisobutyronitrile, be nzoyl peroxide and dicumyl peroxide have been studied at different rea ction conditions, e.g., solvent, temperature, time duration of reactio n and molar ratio of reactants in view to get optimum yield of the pro ducts. The methylation reactions have also been carried out by diazome thane under PTC condition. The suitability of methylation and chlorina tion reaction has been evaluated to get pure and high yield of the pro ducts.
