Two cases of mortalities in,cultured red claw crayfish Cherax quadrica
rinatus associated with systemic Vibrio mimicus infections are describ
ed. In these cases, V. mimicus appears to have been an opportunistic p
athogen following stress caused by either overcrowding or mismanagemen
t and poor water quality. Humans consuming raw or improperly cooked in
fected crayfish could be at risk of contracting gastrointestinal disea
se.
