The use of microsurgery has expanded to almost every surgical specialt
y, thus, there is a need for continuous microsurgical training. Living
animals are ideal training models for microsurgical techniques, but t
here is not an unlimited supply in many institutions. In this situatio
n, the coronary arteries of the pig heart have proved to be a simple a
nd reliable model for the beginner in microsurgery. This model is easi
ly available, and the training is simple to organize.
