Abstract
Small single crystals of CdWO4 were irradiated by Co-60 gamma-rays for accumulated doses in the range of 10(4) to 10(8) rad. Degradation in optical transmittance was less than 2%/cm for doses up to 10(8) rad wh en the measurement was carried out a few to several tens of hours afte r irradiation. The result is discussed in comparison with the larger d amage reported previously. The intrinsic background spectrum indicates that there are much less radioactive impurities in CdWO4 than in GSO: Ce and BGO.
