Ee. Saidgaliev et al., ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CHEMICAL-STRUCTURE AND INDUCTION PERIOD OF IGNITION OF SOME AROMATIC POLYMERS IN A LASER-RADIATION FIELD, High energy chemistry, 28(5), 1994, pp. 395-398
The aim of this study was to test the efficiency of methods for impart
ing incombustibility to aromatic heterochain polymers by chemical modi
fication with metal compounds, halogenation, or creation of a rigid ne
twork via crosslinking or introducing bulky chemical groups into the p
olymer chain. It was shown that all of these methods of increasing the
flame resistance of polymers retain their efficiency to various degre
es under conditions of laser ignition. Chemical modification with halo
gens, in particular, bromine, is the most effective method.
