S. Heyman, MECKELS-DIVERTICULUM - POSSIBLE DETECTION BY COMBINING PENTAGASTRIN WITH HISTAMINE H-2-RECEPTOR BLOCKER, The Journal of nuclear medicine, 35(10), 1994, pp. 1656-1658
A Meckel's scan was performed on a 7-yr-old boy because of rectal blee
ding. He was premedicated with pentagastrin (6 mu g/kg subcutaneously)
followed by 259 MBq (7 mCi) [99mTc]pertechnetate intravenously. The s
tudy was essentially negative. Because of persistent rectal bleeding a
nd a strong clinical suspicion of a Meckel's, a repeat study was perfo
rmed 6 wk later. He received pentagastrin as before, but this time was
also given a histamine H-2 receptor blocker (zantac). A Meckel's dive
rticulum was clearly evident.
