Ds. Peter et al., 570 FS PULSES FROM A PR3-DOPED FIBRER LASER MODE-LOCKED BY PUMP PULSEINDUCED CROSS-PHASE MODULATION(), Electronics Letters, 30(19), 1994, pp. 1595-1596
The authors report for the first time subpicosecond pulse generation b
y pump pulse induced cross-phase modulation in an active fibre. By syn
chronously pumping a Pr3+-doped fluoride fibre with 90ps Nd:YAG laser
pulses, 570fs pulses at 1.3mum were obtained using intracavity dispers
ion compensation. It was found that the introduction of a polarisation
dependent loss into the cavity allows different repetition rates of t
he fibre laser to be selected and is essential for obtaining stable pu
lse trains.
