Abstract
The properties of the steady free fall of an autorotating rigid body i n a resistant medium are compared with those of the corresponding perm anent rotation of a mock-up of the body in a wind-tunnel. The relative motions of the body and the medium are the same in both these steady motions, but the body has a different number of degrees of freedom.
