This paper discusses the development of a general three-dimensional co
mputer model for the analysis of light-frame wood buildings. The model
includes the development and assembly for the stiffness matrices of d
iaphragms, and intercomponent connections and the use of an iterative
incremental method to handle the nonlinear nature of the problem. Lump
ed mass and damping matrices are utilized for performing dynamic analy
sis. A comprehensive verification study of the model is conducted usin
g other finite element analyses and available experimental data. Excel
lent correlations are obtained. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
