Abstract
Demethylation of methylthio imidazole 1 via a Pummerer rearrangement o nto the corresponding sulfoxide 2 afforded imidazole thiol 4 which was then difluoromethylated with the sodium chlorodifluoroacetate/NaI sys tem in 71% overall yield.
