Abstract
The use of ground effects for the evaluation of earthquake intensity i s described and discussed. The importance of such effects, and the pro blems that arise when they are not properly considered, are analysed i n particular. The opinions of many experts in the field, regarding the uselessness of such data because of their great variability, are refu ted.
