V. Bongers et al., THE VALUE OF RENAL SCINTIGRAPHY IN THE CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT OF A PATIENT WITH TUBEROUS SCLEROSIS, Clinical nuclear medicine, 22(3), 1997, pp. 176-178
The diagnostic dilemma to differentiate angiomyolipomas from renal cel
l carcinoma has been resolved by computerized tomography and sonograph
y. However, these imaging modalities are incapable of estimating the f
unctional contribution of individual kidneys. Renal scintigraphy can b
e used for a quantitative impression of renal function and is, therefo
re, of additional value in monitoring conservatively treated tuberous
sclerosis patients as shown by the case report.
