Abstract
Several mechanistic experiments were carried out to investigate negati ve results obtained with aflatoxin B-1 (AFB(1)) in the in vitro hepato cyte micronucleus assay. The data showed that the lack of AFB(1)-induc ed mutogenicity was not due to deficient metabolic activation of the m ycotoxin or to an inefficiency of the test protocol. It appeared that the cytotoxic actions of AFB(1), specifically the interference with he patocyte proliferation, prevented the formation of micronuclei.
