The title compound is available from the reaction of labile gold(I) ch
loride complexes and an excess of the ligand ((t)Bu(3)P), or from the
NaBH4 reduction of ((t)Bu(3)P)AuCl. It forms dark red cubic crystals,
[a = 14.297(1) Angstrom at -56 degrees C, space group P2(1)3, Z = 4]:
with isolated chloride anions and [((t)Bu(3)P)(2)Au](+) cations of C-3
symmetry, with linear two-coordinate gold centers.
