The paper deals with the dynamics of a linear, non-dispersive and non-
dissipative transmission line connected at one end to a linear resisto
r, and to a piecewise-linear resistor at the other end. The physical s
ystem, in spite of its simplicity, can exhibit bifurcation phenomena a
nd chaotic dynamics. One of its most interesting features is the appea
rance of chaotic behaviours in the spatial profile of the electromagne
tic waves.
