NEW MEASUREMENTS OF APPEARANCE POTENTIALS AND OPTICAL-ABSORPTION OF NA2F AND NA3O

Oxides and fluorides of sodium clusters were produced by reacting a be am of metal clusters with N2O or SF6 in the region between nozzle and skimmer. The threshold for single photon ionization was measured by us ing a pulsed, frequency doubled visible dye laser or a UV dye laser an d detecting ions with a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Resonant two-pho ton ionization was employed to record optical spectra. Comparisons wit h previous measurements arid theoretical predictions are discussed. (C ) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
