Although neurofibroma is a relatively common tumor, some histopatholog
ic variants are so rare that they are not well known. In a study of 13
0 neural cutaneous tumors seen between 1986 and 1991 in the department
of dermatology at the University of Heinrich-Heine, we identified 114
neurofibromas of different types. We present herein the histopatholog
ical features of these tumors. The differentiating features from other
neural tumors-melanocytic or mesenchymal tumors that display ''neuroi
d'' features-are also discussed.
