Abstract
The formation of hypertrophic and keloid scars after cutaneous woundin g is of particular relevance to the practice of maxillofacial surgery. This paper reviews current knowledge of the local and systemic factor s underlying the formation of these scars and outlines the current and potential treatment modalities for these lesions.
