Abstract
There are no literary data on the composition of bird fauna on the flo odplain of the river Morava except one short paper by Barcak, Cyprich (1971). During the period from January 1990 to August 1993 we register ed altogether 215 bird species in this area, among which 196 species ( 91.16 %) occurred along the lower 33 km of the river. There are comple xes of floodplain forests, dead arms, wetlands and wet meadows which a re unique even in Central European scale. Among seven types of studied habitats the richest are floodplain forests with 92 species, dead arm s and wetlands with 87 species and wet meadows with 88 species. Among the species registered up to present 9 species (4.18 %) belong to the category E, 38 species (17.67 %) to the category V and 48 species (22. 32 %) to the category R in the proposal for the Red list of endangered species in Slovakia.
