Abstract
A foal delivered by cesarian section and orphaned shortly thereafter w as found to have severe intolerance of glucose. Continuous infusion in sulin therapy was instituted. The foal was successfully withdrawn from insulin therapy after 10 days, and did not require further insulin su pplementation throughout the remainder of her 6-week hospitalization p eriod. This study indicates that continuous insulin infusion has prove n to be a useful therapeutic tool for foals that demonstrate severe gl ucose intolerance.
