Xq. Xu et Df. Watt, BASIC ROLE OF A HARD PARTICLE IN A METAL-MATRIX SUBJECTED TO TENSILE LOADING, Acta metallurgica et materialia, 42(11), 1994, pp. 3717-3729
The present study is mainly devoted to clarifying the basic role of a
hard particle in a metal matrix based on Eshelby's theory of an inhomo
geneity. Firstly, the stress and strain distribution around an isolate
d spherical particle has been visualized instead of leaving the classi
c fundamental approach as an analytical form. Secondly, the features o
f the matrix-particle interfacial stress characteristics have been exa
mined. Thirdly, the work answers the question of how the misfit of the
elastic constants affects stress transfer to the inhomogeneity. Final
ly, a verification has been made that the stress concentration in the
matrix is normalized by the size of the inhomogeneity.
