Ma. Berry et al., SUGGESTED GUIDELINES FOR REMEDIATION OF DAMAGE FROM SEWAGE BACKFLOW INTO BUILDINGS, Journal of environmental health, 57(3), 1994, pp. 9-15
Sewage backflows are serious health threats to humans indoors. The pur
pose of this paper is to summarize what is known about health effects
associated with sewage backflow into indoor environments and to make t
echnical recommendations for safe, effective restoration. Risks to hea
lth from specific pathogens are considered, and the classes of disinfe
ctants and their properties are discussed. The recommendations for rem
ediation are based largely on the characteristics of the contaminated
material and the length of time of the contamination.
