R. Oelgeklaus et al., ON THE RATE OF HYDROGEN AND IODINE ADSORPTION ON POLYCRYSTALLINE PT AND PT(111), Journal of electroanalytical chemistry [1992], 376(1-2), 1994, pp. 127-133
Impedance measurements were taken at a Pt(111) and a polycrystalline e
lectrode in alkaline electrolyte. The effect of iodide in the solution
was also studied. The rate of iodide adsorption was too fast to be de
termined. In iodine-free solution, the rate of hydrogen adsorption is
higher on Pt(111) than on the polycrystalline electrode by one order o
f magnitude. Whereas iodide does not influence the rate of hydrogen ad
sorption in the case of the polycrystalline electrode, it causes a mar
ked decrease in this rate on Pt(111) even at potentials where only tra
ces of iodine are adsorbed.
