Using a new kind of activation for surface-enhanced Raman (SER) spectr
oscopy, we have observed a splitting of the broad SER signal of the CN
- stretching vibration into a number of separate bands. As a tentative
explanation it is assumed that the observed splitting shows the inhom
ogeneity of the real surface, which could be simulated by a distributi
on of clusters of different sizes.
