This article reports on the prevalence of eye disorders among 282 resi
dents of a nursing home, who were examined by an ophthalmologist in an
in-house eye clinic. Almost all the residents had at least one eye di
sorder, and over half had two or more eye disorders, primarily catarac
t and atrophic age-related macular degeneration. The prevalence of eye
disorders underscores the need for eye care in nursing homes.
